State House Democrats warned today that the majority Republicans' budget proposal "sets North Carolina back many, many, many years."
Wednesday, the House GOP rolled out its proposals for a spending plan that includes major cuts to agencies and programs across the board. Education would lose $1.25 billion dollars. The cuts to the UNC system alone would equal the entire budgets of 5 of its 16 campuses.
Rep. Rick Glazier, D-Cumberland, called the cuts "stunningly massive," saying they would lead to more than 20,000 lost jobs in state schools and universities.
