House Elections takes up new Voter ID bill

Posted April 6, 2011

We're livestreaming the House Elections committee meeting today on House Bill 351, the Voter ID bill.

The new version would require a photo ID, an issue that's reportedly been a source of contention within the House Republican caucus. But in the latest version of the measure, an expired driver's license would be acceptable ID, even if the address hasn't been updated.

Here's the version they'll be debating today. To watch the meeting, go to and look for the link at the top of the homepage.

So, it takes a Republican controlled assembly

It's going to take a republican controlled assembly to do everything to get this state back on track. This is one of the first steps.

So, it takes a Republican controlled assembly to try to enact a law that should have been in place from day one?
Everyone should be proud to present their ID when voting. What a privilege we Americans have! lwinstead@nash

I feel every voter should be required to have a voter ID. Why would anyone oppose this matter unless they are illegal residents of this country?
