Behind the Bills: More guns in more places

The House Judiciary committee is set to vote next week on whether private employers should be required to let workers bring guns onto their property, as long as the weapons are locked up in their parked cars.

H63 is just one of several bills that would ease NC"s gun laws, especially for people with concealed weapons permits. H111 would require cities to allow concealed weapons in public parks.  And H184 would give every elected state or local official with a concealed-carry permit the right to carry guns into schools, events, and even on the House and Senate floors.

Republican leaders say current restrictions don't allow responsible gun owners to adequately protect themselves. But other legislators say more guns in more places won't make anyone safer.

North carolina has got to have the stupided legisture that there is in this whole nation besides the ones in the repbulican portion of the one in the state of wisconsin for justtoday online section of the wral news press section there is another shooting victim that has been shot on the all american expressway right here in this state in the city limits of fayettevlie nc how are more guns in the hands of criminals going to make us any safer. i am personaly guessing tha tthe state legicture is just behold to the gun lobbyist in this state for their campaign contrubtions to the sorry republican politicans in our legistur these statement are comming from a gun owner that belive in the right tio bear arms but this is an issue whoes time has come to stop the preferlation of the weapons an their are just to many shooting occuring across this state an this nation in it needs to be reined in to stop the types of gun crimes that are destroying lives both young an old. there is an add running

Laura Leslie, You make the assertion in your "story" that all you need to do to get a concealed carry permit is take a safety class and no proficiency is required. You are either speaking out of complete ignorance or outright lying. In order to get a concealed carry permit you have to take certain number of classroom hours of training that includes covering laws, regulations, scenarios, safety, handling, etc but also a real live fire handling and proficiency test. If you don’t complete and pass these you don’t get a permit.

Well Flow Easy I hope the bad guy never attacks you in the street without a gun sweetie. We need to get more like Texas, everyone carries a gun.

Just what we need - more guns in more places. If you want to have a gun in your home for protection, I am all for it. But don't make it easier for someone to get upset and fly off the handle or decide they have the right to be the justice-giver. Guns give people an excuse to not be civil and not work things out. If your cahones have to be agmented by a gun, maybe you shouldn't leave the safety of your house... Let's learn a lesson from Johnny Cash's "Don't take your guns to town."

"in bars" is incorrect. there are no 'bars' in NC. there are restaurants that serve alcohol. there are places which are called 'bars', however, by statute, they're not.

Those who object to guns don't have to carry them on the House and Senate floors.

In my House, we voted the Bill, it PASSED.

If NC elected Pass it or Not it is LAW at my home & my person. Too bad if the pantiwaist can not deal with it. When someone is assulting you, robbing you about to take your life or a member of you familt - just put your hands over your head and sing GomBya

All of these anti-gun supporters make me sick. One day when the police are not around and they run into a situation with the bad guy they will wish that had supported this bill.

Regardless of where a person can have a weapon bears little or no fruit in the ability for one to protect themselves. Knowing that a person can use the weapon and/or other methods of deadly force without reprise in a life-safety situation makes far more sense.

Almost forgot. House bill 184, which would give elected officials CC privileges....is a HORRIBLE idea. The last thing we want to do is put guns in the hands of crooked, lying, stealing, corrupt, politicians!!!

I've yet to see a responsible gun owner kill anyone legally. Yea, I know... it's a little play on words. But, criminals are the enemy, not responsible CC gun owners. Think about it for a moment. If you're a criminal lowlife... and you're out to steal, pilfer, rape, murder, etc... would you go to places that CC guns might be... or, in an effort to avoid death, would you pick places where guns are not allowed? There is absolutely NO question that criminals will be at a decided dis-advantage if this law passes.

After seeing your reports regarding Concealed Carry Handguns in various places such as State and Municipal Parks, Restaurants, etc, and hearing some of the comments made in opposition I would suggest to you that you and any reporters involved in these reports take the concealed carry course. In the course you would learn when and where you can legally carry, and the training required before a concealed carry permit is issued by the local sheriffs department.
