Charter schools bill update

The charter school system overhaul bill gets another day for public comment.

Posted Updated

Just got an update on S8, the Senate proposal to revamp the state's charter schools system and remove the cap.

The bill's now moving to a Senate Education subcommittee, made up of the three co-chairs – Republicans Jean Preston, Dan Soucek and Jerry Tillman – plus Malcolm Graham (D-Mecklenburg) and Josh Stein (D-Wake). They'll meet next Wednesday at 10 a.m. in LOB room 643 to go through the bill section by section.

And yes, they will be taking public comments. But if the last meeting is any indication, would-be speakers should come early to sign up – it was a lengthy line.
