Presidential air wars heating up

With more than five months to go before Election Day, the presidential contest is already heating up in a big way on North Carolina airwaves.

The Obama campaign is rolling out two 30-second spots today, answering a major ad buy by conservative 501(c)4 Crossroads GPS for an spot attacking the president.

Crossroads GPS said Tuesday it’s spending $965,000 on NC airtime for “Basketball.”

“I supported President Obama because he spoke so beautifully,” the female narrator says. “He promised change. But things changed for the worse.”

That spot is available here.

The Obama campaign wouldn’t say what it’s spending on the two ads unveiled today, but a campaign official says they’ll both run on broadcast television.

One ad, “Personal,” is aimed at senior citizens, touting the President’s commitment to preserving Medicare and his progress in fighting health care fraud.

“To you and your loved ones, Medicare is personal," the female narrator says. "And to a President raised by his grandparents, it’s personal, too."

You can see that ad here.

The second ad, “Sacred Trust,” is directed at servicemembers, veterans, and their families.

The ad features President Obama thanking veterans: “It’s because of what they’ve done that we’ve been able to go after al Qaeda and kill bin Laden."

“And when they come home, we have a sacred trust to make sure that we are doing everything we can," he continues. "It’s not enough just to make a speech about how much we value veterans, it’s not enough just to remember them on Memorial Day."

You can watch that ad here.

I love my DVR. I never see any of these ads.

Nothing hypocritical about Conservatives crying that Clinton got money (that he returned) from a foreigner, but now you can give unlimited money as a foreigner to super paks that can then give to other super paks all hidden.

It's all OK when you want to win, isn't it?

Here are the facts, according to the official government statistics:

• In the 2009 fiscal year — the last of George W. Bush’s presidency — federal spending rose by 17.9% from $2.98 trillion to $3.52 trillion. Check the official numbers at the Office of Management and Budget.

• In fiscal 2010 — the first budget under Obama — spending fell 1.8% to $3.46 trillion.

• In fiscal 2011, spending rose 4.3% to $3.60 trillion.

• In fiscal 2012, spending is set to rise 0.7% to $3.63 trillion, according to the Congressional Budget Office’s estimate of the budget that was agreed to last August.

• Finally in fiscal 2013 — the final budget of Obama’s term — spending is scheduled to fall 1.3% to $3.58 trillion. Read the CBO’s latest budget outlook.

The big surge in federal spending happened in fiscal 2009, before Obama took office. Since then, spending growth has been relatively flat. Over Obama’s four budget years, federal spending is on track to rise from $

What budget? The one that was shot down 99-0 by the senate last week?

"“I supported President Obama because he spoke so beautifully,” the female narrator says. “He promised change. But things changed for the worse.”

But they didn't....things are much better than they were in early 2008.

"What budget? The one that was shot down 99-0 by the senate last week?"

President has no control over Senate or Congress.....didn't you know that?

"I love my DVR. I never see any of these ads."

Great gadgets but I do like to watch the news live....so they are hard to avoid. I like Obama one with the graph showing the recession.....simple and to the point.

President has no control over Senate or Congress.....didn't you know that? Tcheuchter SO ,,, based on your reasoning... any good news on the economy is because of congress? hmmm... sounds like faulty european thinking
