McCrory: bring your ID to vote

Published: 2012-04-18 15:26:12

Republican gubernatorial candidate Pat McCrory is using a new web video to encourage voters to bring their identification to the polls.

"I know Governor Perdue doesn’t think it’s necessary, and neither do her understudies who want to take her job. But we do. We think it’s necessary to protect the fair, democratic vote," McCrory says in the 47-second spot.

Under current voting law, most voters don't have to show identification when they go to vote. Exceptions includes those who registered by mail but did not include a copy of their photo identification when they did so.

Here's the commercial:

Election officials have said that people who try to force showing their I.D. when voting will slow up the voting process. It's always a good idea to carry your I.D. with you, but it's unnecessary to show it at the polling place under current law.

geoherb1, no it doesn't.

I've worked the polls. What slows up the voting process is the number of people that don't remember their names or addresses or in the case of early voting, what precinct they registered in.

Yes, we do need Voter ID

In this world today showing photo id to vote is a no brainer. Why on earth not? Only folks it helps are unregistered voters - those who vote for others. People paid with money or cigarettes to vote for dead or otherwise unqualified individuals. Being against voter id is the same as being for voting "irregularities".

I always take mine and make sure they see it and make a note of it when I vote. Said this before and will say it again that if they tell me I've already voted, I am going to call the tv, radio and newspapers along with the police, than going to throe a major hissy fit. No one, and I mean NO ONE is going to take my vote away from me.

"No one, and I mean NO ONE is going to take my vote away from me." - driverkid3 And your deafening silence is proof that it has never happened.

This has absolutely nothing to do with voter fraud. This is because the GOP had a totally epic fail in 2008. They studied the voting demographics and found a way to limit legitimate Democratic votes and ALEC is ramming this though every state legislature under GOP control. Wake up, the wool is being pulled over your eyes. It just may be your rights they look to destroy next. In a battle between your rights and corporate profits, you lose. Those people (corporations) have more speech (money) than you ever will. If you can't win, cheat. It's the GOP way.

the nazis used to say -- your papers please. this republican id issue is close to nazism... Mccroy--yer just flat wrong and it shows me of your disregard for freedom and it shows a ccharacter flaw-- your id position is as flawed as is bev perdues fanatism tryin to unseat the traditional marriage amenment.

i can see by reading the posts on this subj there are some real freedom haters out there.... READ MY FONT ------ THERE IS NO VOTER ID FRAUD OF ANY MERIT WHAT SO EVER GOING ON IN NC..... when all you supporters of id verification are told to wear an electronic moniter WHAT ARE YOU GONNA SAY THEN? you cant have to much freedom and most of yall have forgot that.... SHAME ON YOU!!!!!!!!

The only freedom the GOP is interested in is the freedom of wealthy special interests to extract the last dime out of the middle class. They have theirs and they intend to keep it at all costs. Upward mobility must be thwarted at all costs because they don't want you to have a slice of the pie, they want it all for themselves. Everyone else can eat cake.

AMEN

You people on here NOT supporting voter id are NUTS. Really people? How darn hard it is to bring your drivers license. All of your liberal mumbo jumbo is sickening. Get a grip Showing an ID makes sense considering we could have every illegal voting. And yes, it is true. If they can vote, they will vote Democratic. Its ridiculous what some of you are saying. Freedom doesn't mean we loose our senses.
