McIntyre withdraws name from gubernatorial run

Seventh District Congressman Mike McIntyre said Friday that he plans to run for re-election and not seek the Democratic nomination for governor.
"My heart is in public service, and I love North Carolina. I am honored to have had my name considered for governor, but there is simply not enough time between now and May 8th to construct the type of campaign that I would have liked to establish," McIntyre said in a statement released by the North Carolina Democratic Party.
After Gov. Beverly Perdue announced two weeks ago that she wouldn't run for a second term, Lt. Gov. Water Dalton, Orange County Rep. Bill Faison and former 2nd District Congressman Bob Etheridge have announced plans to seek the Democratic nomination.
Sen. Dan Blue of Wake County, 13th District Congressman Brad Miller and former State Treasurer Richard Moore are still debating whether to throw their hats in the ring.
