Longtime Fayetteville Democratic Rep. Rick Glazier is considering a run for Superintendent of Public Instruction in 2012.

Rumors have been circulating for some time that Glazier, who’s been an outspoken advocate for education in the State House, was considering an executive branch run. Under the new redistricting maps, he’s drawn into the same district with Democrat Diane Parfitt.

Current Superintendent June Atkinson is a fellow Democrat, serving her second 4-year term helming the state's school system.

Glazier wouldn’t confirm a run on camera today, but he wouldn’t deny it either.

“Superintendent Atkinson is the Superintendent of Public Instruction," Glazier said, "and she has not made a decision on whether she’s running for re-election, and so we’re gonna await her decision as to whether she’s running for re-election.”

But is he at least interested?

Glazier clarified he is interested in running for the seat if Atkinson does not.
