A bill that would put the Wake County Board of Commissioners in control of area school buildings and land moved closer to passage Wednesday, despite criticism that it was politically motivated.
The state Senate voted unanimously Thursday to reaffirm the right of students to pray in public schools.
Charters schools would be governed by a newly create board under a bill that passed the state Senate on Tuesday.
Amid protests from some members seeking a show of hands for a vote, Senate Finance Committee Co-Chairman Bill Rabon quickly adjourned a Wednesday meeting after declaring that a bill to freeze and repeal the state's renewable energy standards had enough support to advance.
The Senate has tentatively approved Senate Bill 612, a proposal that would forbid localities from having any environmental rules more stringent than state or federal law.
