I have noted in years past that the North Carolina State Fair midway is home to some of the most depressed-looking UNC Mascots ever. There are other UNC prizes to be won for Whac-A-Mole or winning a water gun game (I remember winning a UNC bear in a pink (?!) UNC hoodie a few years ago) but if you're looking for a mascot prize, mostly you'll find these Rams, all of which look like they've watched Leaving Las Vegas a hundred times in a row.
It seems to me that this year the Rams look a little sadder than usual. That might just be my perception, knowing the tribulations UNC's football team has faced this season. Or it may because many midway game booths have put the Duke Blue Devils next to the sad Rams.
And unlike the UNC mascots, the Duke mascots are happy! They're cheerful! Some of them are slyly looking over at the UNC mascots in such a way that you just know there's trash talking going on at the prize wall.
Anyway, basketball season is starting soon. Maybe those UNC mascots will get something to smile about then...
