The cakes in the open display at one end of the Education Building are from the professional and amateur contests, and they're great. (There's always a huge line waiting to see them!) But those cakes are not all the cakes. The cabinet displays contain entries from the junior decorating contests, and they're also excellent.
Highlights this year include a Monopoly board, a cake showing the best of NC (including donuts and Cheerwine) and a dress cake that had so many ribbons and flowers that I'm awe of a) the person who made it and b) the person who got it to the Fair and into the display case without anything getting messed up.
