It's near the bottom of a hill near the Village of Yesteryear, it has a wonderful quiet lawn with lots of tables, it's colorful and educational, and it's filled with surprises. Is the Flower and Garden Show the best-kept secret at the Fair?
If it is, that's both good and bad. It's good if you know the secret -- you'll get to enjoy the aforementioned lawn, the gorgeous mums and contest entries, the friendly folks who can tell you all you want to know about plants. But if you don't know the secret, you might skip the exhibit and miss the surprises! The small room full of bonsai. The little tent where folks from the Raleigh-Durham Caged Bird Society can answer your bird questions. (If you're lucky you might see a couple of caged birds, temporarily uncaged, bouncing around enjoying the weather.) The water conservation tips and exhibits.
And though I doubt the Fair had anything to do with it, the Flower and Garden Show also features a goose, full of personality, who wanders around poormouthing (poorbeaking?) in an attempt to get in on some Fair food. From what I saw, it was doing a pretty good job.
