Take time for a grape time

There probably isn't an official award for "Best Thing that Costs a Dollar at the Fair," but there ought to be. Almost every year I find something that makes me say "Wait, this is only a buck?"

I know in the last couple of years I've mentioned the bears that are in the corner behind Dorton Arena, but they're now $2 to see ($3 for two people.) So we've got a new winner! It's at the Lu Mil Vineyard booth in the Kerr Scott building.

Here the Lu Mil folks sell a muscadine grape cider slushie for $1. (You can get a free sample too and no, it doesn't have alcohol.) Wow, it's good. It has an amazing rich grape flavor. The only downside is that the temperature is a little too cool to completely enjoy a slushie. This did not stop me from drinking mine so fast I got "brain freeze"...

If there's a "Best Thing that Costs A Dollar-Fifty" award, I'd give that to the fried okra at the Farmer's Market Restaurant booth. Minimum breading, maximum crunch. Pass the napkins!
