Three people will compete in October's election to succeed Raleigh Mayor Charles Meeker.

City Councilwoman Nancy McFarlane, real estate executive Billie Redmond and obstetrician Randall Williams were the only candidates to file for the mayoral race when the candidate filing period ended at noon Friday.

Meeker announced in May that he would not seek a sixth two-year term as mayor.

If no candidate receives more than 50 percent of the votes in the Oct. 11 election, a runoff between the top two finishers will be held Nov. 8.

In Cary, Mayor Harold Weinbrecht faces competition in his re-election bid. Michelle Muir is also seeking the seat.

Don't have a dog in this hunt, best of luck to ya'll.

Good riddance to Meeker. Maybe the next mayor won't insist on building monuments to himself with our money. I'll bet Meeker flees the city soon.

In other news, Help Wanted ads were purchased to see if the City of Durham could lure a candidate into accepting the job of Mayor. As of publishing time, no offers were received. More at 11.

Dr. Willams resume far outweighs the others. Check out his facebook page. Its what he accomplised after medical school that makes him the best canidate. Well educated but also a life well lived.

Dr. Williams gets my vote, an all-around awesome guy.
