Lightning to blame for Raleigh bed and breakfast fire

Raleigh firefighters say lightning sparked a blaze that burned a bed and breakfast near Cameron Village shopping center early Monday.

Witnesses said they heard a loud boom before the fire started at Cameron Park Inn at 211 Groveland Ave. around 2 a.m.

Two guests were staying at the inn and made it out safely, fire crews said. The third floor was destroyed, and the first and second floors suffered water damage.

No other information was released.

the firemen did an excellent job of minimizing the damage. after the fire appeared to be out they obviously knew it was still smoldering under the shingles and dealt with it accordingly. there is a terrible amount of damage but i think their skill and professionalism saved the entire house from burning down.

"The number of fires in and around Raleigh lately is alarming. Apartment fires, businesses, empty lots... I think there is a pyro torching things."

Who know God was a pyromaniac?

The Cameron Park Inn is such a lovely home, I hope they can recover from this. Lucky for them they are almost across the street from the fire station.

kilquian, read not the headline? Thor is the "arsonist" in this case. That storm last night was very lightning intensive.

My sister in law wanted to get married there this year.... she is so disappointed. :( Hopefully they can rebuild this beautiful B&B.
