Harold Weinbrecht Jr., mayor of Cary, said Monday he intends to run for re-election. If he succeeds, it would be his second term in office. Weinbrecht became mayor in 2007. He served four years on the town council from 1999-2003.

Weinbrecht is married, has two children and works as a programmer at SAS.

Michelle Muir, a marketing consultant, has also said she will contend for the office.

Cary's municipal election is Oct. 11.

The $1 million in lawsuits will probably be what keeps him from being re-elected.

As a longtime resident of Cary, I am glad the Mayor will run again. He has done a very good job maintaining Cary's fiscal health while not sacrificing the quality of life in our town. And he seems like a genuinely nice, hardworking person.

Nothing will change, regardless of who runs/wins. I just wish our mayor would get a big boy hair cut.

Wanna win Weinbrecht? Investigate your police department and their handling of Cooper trial!!!!!!!
