Police: Raleigh man fled after crashing car into building

A Raleigh man was charged Wednesday after police say he crashed his car into an apartment building on Burgundy Street and then fled the scene on foot.

RALEIGH, N.C. — A Raleigh man was charged Wednesday after police say he crashed his car into an apartment building on Burgundy Street and then fled the scene on foot.

The suspect, Tavaris Deon Quiller, 24, of 704 Barksdale Drive, was apprehended a short time later. He was charged with felony hit and run and taken to the Wake County jail. 

Police said Quiller hopped out of the SUV he was driving before it struck the building. No one was injured in the crash.

Damages to the building were minimal, police said.

According to Department of Correction records, Quiller has a lengthy criminal history, dating back to 2003. He has faced breaking and entering, larceny, robbery, drug possession and robbery with a dangerous weapon charges.
