The Michigan soldier accused of murdering his brother-in-law inside a home on Fort Bragg told a 911 operator he awoke covered in blood in his car.

The Fayetteville Observer reports that a recording of the call was played for jurors Tuesday. In the call, 27-year-old Detroit native Spc. Eric A. Mead tells the operator he doesn't know what happened but asks that someone check on his brother-in-law.

Mead is being tried in a military court at Fort Bragg. He faces up to life in prison if he's convicted of the charges from a May 2010 incident in which Mead's brother-in-law, Stephen Harris, was killed. Mead's wife was also hurt.

Prosecutors say Mead sneaked in and attacked Harris despite being ordered to stay away from the home.
