A Spring Lake man has been arrested on allegations that he shot his neighbor during an argument.

Desmond Andre Buckmire, 19, of 207 Scarborough St., was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting injury following the dispute.

It happened late Saturday night in front of Buckmire's home, the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office said.

Investigators said Buckmire shot Richard Frederick Jefferson, 23, in the left upper torso and lower right leg and that, as Jefferson tried to crawl away, Buckmire also shot him in the right foot and left hand.

Jefferson was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, where he underwent surgery for his injuries.

Buckmire was in the Cumberland County Detention Center, where he was being held under a $10,000 secured bond Monday afternoon.

As someone who knows these two there was NO long time harassment!! No one deserves to be shot! Much less follow a person who can"t even walk and who has no gun and keep shooting him! Back in the day if you got in a fight it was just a fight, and the loser don't get mad and start shooting, Much lLess with CHILDREN playing in the street! Thank God that none of the children playing got hit by bullets he was shooting!

take that!

The shooter's pic and behavior make me bet he was goaded into it, maybe by long-time harassment. I'm sure there is more to this story, and I bet Mr. Jefferson isn't totally innocent.

I'm not condoning the shooting, but sometimes you just have to push back and some unreasonable people don't understand anything else but deadly force.

Either there are circumstances not printed here or the bond is totally out of sync with the crime as charged.

ok. who cares?
