Authorities were searching for an escaped inmate from a Hoke County prison Sunday who they believe might be headed to Raleigh.

William Robert Emory, 37, was serving a two-year, three-month sentence for obtaining property by false pretense at  Hoke Correctional Institution, west of Raeford. He was scheduled for release on May 30, according to Department of Correction records.

A prison spokesman said Emory jumped the fence of the minimum-custody facility and was picked up in a car. The person who picked him up, whose name was not released, has been in contact with authorities, but is no longer aware of Emory's whereabouts, authorities said.

Emory is originally from Raleigh and authorities believe he might be heading to the Triangle area.

He is not considered dangerous, but DOC records show a lengthy criminal history, with forgery, fraud and larceny convictions dating back to 1991.

He previously escaped from prison in 1998, according to DOC records.
