Oxford police kill suspected robber
A police officer shot and killed a man suspected of robbing an insurance agency in downtown Oxford Friday morning, police said.

A man walked into the Nationwide Insurance office on Gilliam Street shortly after 10:15 a.m. and robbed a worker at gunpoint, police said.
A short time later, an officer spotted a man fitting the description of the robber about a half-mile away on Railroad Avenue and tried to detain him, police said. The officer and the man struggled, and the officer fired one shot and killed the man.
Police identified the suspected robber as Ike Hutcherson, 40, whose last known address was on Railroad Avenue.
He had a single previous conviction for possessing stolen goods in 2007, according to state Department of Correction records.
The officer, whose name wasn't released, was placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of reviews of the incident by the State Bureau of Investigation and the Oxford Police Department.
