Doctors win fight against UNC to build Prostate Cancer Center

Raleigh, N.C. — A Triangle group of doctors has won its fight against UNC Health Care to build a prostate cancer treatment center.

Four years ago, doctors from Cary Urology proposed a $10 million facility to address the state's high rate of prostate cancer among minority men. UNC Health Care fought the project, then competed for it.

UNC has now dropped its appeals, and Cary Urology's doctors say they plan to open the prostate cancer center in Southeast Raleigh next year.

Thanks to the Doctor for putting up a good fight and winning. Many men will not go see a doctor, not until its too late.

do you really think it was about the underserved.. it was about getting the CON for linear accelerator.....check out the applications... oh and by the way the prostate patients groups are very active and quite vocal men2men etc

Unlike breast cancer, prostate cancer does not have a well organized political pressure group behind it. It is unfortunate that they have to cite concern for minorities, kids and women as a reason to build such a center. Helping old white men is not politically correct. Letting them die and seizing their money is.

I use the Cary Urology group and they are fantastic!!!!

And by the way, I see an equal amount of AfricanAmerican in the waiting room with myself.

One more note, Cary Urology treats MANY young men, & even children. By the way, Cary also treats lots of Women

So how about the rest of the male population? We have just as much prostate problems as minority males.
