Duke University has settled a lawsuit involving the cost of a case involving its lacrosse team.

Three former players were suspended from the university after a stripper falsely accused them of rape.

The university wanted its insurance company to pay the settlement with the students. Duke filed a lawsuit when National Union Fire Insurance Company refused to do so.

Duke ended up paying the settlements.

Duke grad here, and lover of all things Duke. You have got to be kidding me:

Sorry to hear that. jk. I think everyone hates to see something happen to innocent kids.

Duke grad here, and lover of all things Duke. That said, I'm glad Duke had to reach into its own wallet. Broadhead, like every other oh so politically correct academic, couldn't bring himself to offer these boys the presumption of innocence, even though their early actions (including volunteering for DNA testing, without advice of counsel) screamed their innocence. I would fire Broadhead today, were I on the board.

rightisright58: Oh yes I remember.

RM24: once again, you are correct. Let's not forget to mention about Crystal Mangum's latest dance with the law either...

Just remember these students/Lacross players lives will never be the same because of this. The life they would have had will never be the exact same as the course they were on. Now they may still be successful but it will not be the same as it was originally. How do you put a $$$ value on that? There were also many other groups that jumped in to put their two cents worth in. Have they even made an apology? There were all over and riding along the top of the band wagon screaming guilty guilty guilty. But I imagine that's all forgotten.
