Pediatrician accused of molesting patients commits suicide
A nationally known pediatrician and author who was accused of fondling young boys committed suicide at his Orange County home last week, authorities said.

Orange County deputies found Dr. Mel Levine dead at his Rougemont home following a Feb. 18 search, authorities said. Levine's wife called deputies after finding a suicide note, and she told them she hadn't seen her husband for several days.
A number of former patients sued Levine, alleging that he improperly conducted genital examinations on them when he worked in Boston. He denied any wrongdoing but agreed two years ago to surrender his medical license in North Carolina.
Levine was widely known for his work on developmental and learning issues for children, working through the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and his nonprofit All Kinds of Minds, which has worked with school teachers to help them understand different learning styles.
He had retired from UNC as a professor of pediatrics before the accusations surfaced.
