Four Oaks, N.C. — A 19-year-old Benson man was critically injured when his vehicle struck a tree Sunday morning, state troopers said.
Troopers said it appears that Keith Hamilton fell asleep at the wheel, causing his car to run off the road at Raleigh and Elevation roads, west of Four Oaks, around 7:15 a.m.
Hamilton was pinned in the car and had to be extricated through the roof, emergency dispatchers said. He was flown to WakeMed in Raleigh, where he was listed in fair condition Sunday afternoon.
Family members said that Hamilton works the night shift at a McDonald's restaurant and was driving home.
