Two Chapel Hill students disciplined for 'hit list'

print friendly

Two East Chapel Hill High School students have been disciplined after creating a "hit list" on Facebook in the school's computer lab, officials said Friday.

School administrators characterized the actions by the two 16-year-olds as a prank and said no other students were in danger.

Chapel Hill police traced the source of the posting and continue to investigate the case, but no criminal charges had been filed as of Friday afternoon.

East Chapel Hill High sent an e-mail to parents on Friday to notify them of the situation.

I made a comment earlier similar to the ones posted below but none of my comments have been posting today. I'll try again...

I'm wondering how school administration determined it was a prank. Like rdmcswai said, I think it can all be considered a prank until someone gets hurt.

Are we serious. The schoold do not need to lighten up they need to be more strick. With all the school shooting going on these 2 Boys need to be taught that it is not okay to "joke" about killing people. Letting them off easy only shows them its okay to make threats. Come on UNC-CH fix this right. Expell these 2.

They don't need to be on Facebook during school hours or on school computers. I went into an office at school the other day where a "special needs" student was getting his private setting for testing....he was on a website and the person monitoring him was on a computer too. Of course he didn't "finish" so he got to continue the next day. Quit pandering.

They need to be expelled, not just punished. This was an awful prank if that's what they want to call it. It is serious and they should pay the consequences - expel from school and go to a school for kids that need strict discipline.

Well I go to the school and they didn't even tell us so I don't think it's that big of a deal
