Jacksonville, N.C. — The commanding officer of Camp Lejeune’s 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit was charged with shoplifting from a local Walmart over the weekend, police said Tuesday.
Col. Robert Gerald Petit, 50, of 2113 St. Mary's Drive on Camp Lejeune, was arrested Saturday evening. Police said they didn't didn't seize any items when he was taken into custody, and no information was released regarding what he was accused of stealing.
Petit assumed command of the Marine Expeditionary Unit in September. There was no immediate word on his status with the Marine Corps.
In October, the corps relieved Col. Douglas Denn, the commander of the Cherry Point air station, of his duties after he was charged with drunken driving.

I could see it being something like that...He walks out with some junk in the bottom of his cart. The store calls the cops. The cops confront him. He explains the mistake, they still give him a hard time, he has a few words with the cops, they cuff him because they can.
I'm betting the charges will be dropped.
