Raleigh pedestrian struck by police cruiser
Raleigh police cited a man hit by a police cruiser while crossing Glenwood Avenue around midnight Wednesday.
Posted — UpdatedPolice said that Randolph Maurice Davidson, 27, of Raleigh, was walking home from work and entered the leftmost eastbound lane of Glenwood Avenue, near the Interstate 540 overpass. He was struck by a cruiser driven by Officer Matthew Harris.
Davidson was transported to WakeMed hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
He was cited for impeding the flow of traffic.
In the report, police wrote that Davidson said he was walking in the median but didn't have good traction, so he went into the road to pick up speed.
The wreck report states that Harris was driving at 55 mph and hit Davidson at 50 mph. Police initially said that Harris was driving 58 mph. The speed limit there is 55 mph.
Police said in the wreck report that he was wearing a black jacket, jeans and dark shoes.
