A shooting in Durham Sunday killed one man and injured another, police said.

Officers responded to "sounds of shots" calls in the area of Canal and Gurley streets around 5 p.m. They found a 24-year-old man shot, lying on the steps in front of 507 Canal St.

The man, whose name was not released, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 28-year-old man, whose name was also not released, was shot in the shoulder and arm. He walked a few blocks to get help and was being treated at Duke Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Investigator D. West at 919-560-4440, ext. 29341, or Crime Stoppers at 919-683-1200.

Crime Stoppers pays cash rewards for information leading to arrests in felony cases and callers never have to identify themselves.

thats a gang shooting 100 percent right there

I am from the coast and I have lived all over the Triad and I have work in Law enforcement in all areas.Crime is everywhere but it's reported happening in Durham 70 percent of the time in paper and on the news. You would be surpised of what happens in the surrounding cities that never make it on news or the paper.I wonder why that happens all the time.I like Durham and I live here with no problems it's not Durham it's where u live and how u live and that's in every city and town I have lived in and worked in.

I think people bash Durham because everyone knows there are gangs hanging out but there doesn't seem to be any real effort by the earth biscuits and upper crust to weed that mess out and make things right. That's one of the reasons...

Didn't you know that crime only happens in Durham? The rest of the Triangle is crime free and full of puppies and rainbows.

It always amazes me how quickly the anti-Durham crowd comes out to hate every time a crime is reported in Durham, but they manage to ignore crime everywhere else.

We call it The City of Medicine because we are The Triangles' Pharmacy!!
