Raleigh, N.C. — Miss North Carolina Adrienne Core won the preliminary talent competition at the Miss America pageant on Tuesday night.
Core, a 2010 graduate of North Carolina State University, performed a fast-paced, contemporary clogging routine.
The Miss America pageant is Saturday in Las Vegas.
As Miss North Carolina, Core has promoted the V Foundation for Cancer Research, which was founded by N.C. State men's basketball coach Jim Valvano before he died of cancer in 1993. She plans to pursue a master's degree in mathematics education.
