Durham, N.C. — A man died Friday afternoon after being shot in the back outside the Millennium Hotel in Durham.

A spokeswoman for the Durham Police Department said officers were called to the hotel, at 2800 Campus Walk Drive, around 2:45 p.m., where they found the victim in the parking lot. He was pronounced dead at Duke University Hospital.

Investigators haven’t released the name of the victim or further details surrounding the crime, but they say they do not believe it was a random act. They said it did not appear the man was staying at the hotel. 

Anyone with information is asked to call the police department at 919-560-4440, extension 29325, or Crime Stoppers at 919-683-1200.

Crime Stoppers pays cash rewards for information leading to arrests in felony cases, and callers never have to identify themselves.

Obviously, the bashers have not read or taken the time to look at the crime articles of assault, murder, robbery, forgery, and kidnapping that has taken place in Wake Co., Raleigh, Cary, whatever you want to call it. I agree with one reader, the people who complain here, are the same ones who complain about everything else. Look at the level of crime over the past months, and oh goody goody Raleigh, is right there with it. Durham takes a hit because it's believed it's more of a particular population, and we all know what that elephant in the room is. Exchange those they believe populate Raleigh, with those they believe populate Durham, and watch the perception change!

The problem with everyone thinking Durham is so bad is the the media makes sure to put any crime in the headlines.

That is as long as it occurs in Durham. Funny thing, you don't see them mentioning the crimes in Raleigh. But they do happen at the same rate as Durham.

For those that are bashing Durham...yes, it has crime. But the fact of the matter is that it really isn't any worse than good old Raleigh.

For the poster of the crime stats... should have looked at the one for Raleigh before posting it. Raleigh's is above the National average in all crimes as well.

I'm wondering what. . . .I don't know, motivates people, I suppose, from one city to bash another city? Do we have some really criminal people here? Yep. Do we have a crime problem well above average? Yep. Do we have a bad reputation among those outside the city? Sure do. I readily admit all those things. Sooooo, a stranger's critical comments about my city are supposed to. . . . what? I'm not sure.
