Teens face alcohol charges after Zebulon wreck
Two teenagers face alcohol-related charges after a single-vehicle wreck north of Zebulon late Friday, according to the state Highway Patrol.
Posted — UpdatedDriver Nolan Mitchell, 17, of Zebulon, and passenger Philip King, 18, of Louisburg, were in serious condition at WakeMed in Raleigh Saturday.
Troopers said that their vehicle ran off N.C. Highway 96, near Fowler Road, around 11:30 p.m. The vehicle overturned and hit a tree, ejecting both teens.
Hospital officials said Saturday evening that King was in critical condition and Mitchell was in fair condition.
Troopers said that speed and alcohol played a role in the wreck. The vehicle was going 65 to 70 mph in a 55-mph zone, and neither teen was wearing a seat belt, troopers said.
Mitchell was charged with consuming alcohol underage, driving with a revoked license, exceeding a safe speed, failure to maintain lane control and not wearing a seat belt.
King was charged with consuming alcohol underage and not wearing a seat belt.
