At Cameron Village in Raleigh Sunday, about 100 people gathered to send a message of tolerance and togetherness. The demonstration was sparked when a security officer at the shopping center asked a lesbian couple to leave Wednesday for showing some affection.

George York, president of York Properties, Inc., which manages the center, met with the couple Saturday, issued a written apology and promised additional sensitivity training for all security personnel.

York Properties also issued a statement about the meeting.

We apologized that the women were offended, and we affirmed that Cameron Village and York Properties have no tolerance for discrimination of any kind and believe all people deserve the right to be treated fairly in their work, homes and daily lives.

Those who gathered at the shopping center said the incident is a reminder that prejudice still exists.

“It shouldn't be happening in 2010,” said Tracy Hollister. “This happens, not just here but all over the place.”

“These two women were doing nothing wrong,” she continued. “There should be a lot more kisses in this society than violence.”

Amen hereandnow, I dare anyone to tell me not to hold my hubbys hand or put my arm around him anytime I feel like it. Its a very rare thing for a marriage to last as long as ours (38 years so far), and one reason is our affection for one another. We celebrate it, if you dont, too bad for you.

oops, cut/paste error...Treaty of Tripoli was 1796.

KHawk, about your Founding Father misinformation, what proof do you have that Thomas Jefferson was “misquoted” when he told the Danbury Baptists "the 1st Amendment creates a wall of separation between church and state"?

And while some founders may have been religious, they certainly knew that religion should stay out of government...and that this was not a Christian nation.

For instance, the first word of 796 Treaty with Tripoli read, “As the government of the United States of America is not in any sense founded on the Christian Religion...“

This was *UNANIMOUSLY* signed and ratified by the U. S. Senate on November 4, 1796 near the end of George Washington's 2nd term. President John Adams *signed* and *proclaimed* it on June 10, 1797.

So, our forefathers clearly said the U.S. is “not in any sense founded on the Christian Religion”.

Can you please stop trying to rewrite history now? Thanks. :-)

“Out of respect for everyone, can we simply have the decency to keep displays of affection in the private moving forward?” --KHawk

No. I will not stop holding my sweetheart’s hand...I won’t stop holding her close...I won’t stop giving her a kiss every now and again in public...all because you (and the rest of your Puritan-like family) can’t handle it.

"Watch out the bible thumpers are on the loose!" Hahaha, and you want us to be tolerant of you? What a tool.

"USA is considered a "Melting Pot," so remember religion is your perspective and has no grounds for arguement." That's right and also remember that a gay lifestyle is YOUR perspective and has no grounds for arguement. There is no scientific evidence to prove your lack of choice claim. I love these self-righteous hypocritical trolls.
