A Youngsville man was charged Friday with felony larceny in connection with the theft of seven boats from a Wake Forest business.

The arrest warrant states that Garret Mitchell Whitt, 22, of 170 Woodcroft Drive, stole six canoes, a kayak and a trailer from Paddle Creek. The stolen property was worth more than $10,000.

Whitt was placed in the Wake County jail under a $10,000 secured bond. His first court appearance was set for Monday.

Whitt was serving probation for 2009 convictions for delivering or selling drugs, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and felony drug possession, according to state Department of Correction records. He also has 2006 convictions on two counts of larceny after breaking and entering and one count of carrying a concealed weapon.
