A Fort Bragg soldier has been charged with raping a Fayetteville woman, police said Thursday.

Staff Sgt. Shawn Michael Webb, 30, was charged Tuesday with second-degree rape and driving while impaired. He was being held in the Cumberland County Detention Center under a $25,000 bond.

A 21-year-old woman told investigators that she was sexually assaulted inside Webb's Fayetteville home on July 31 after they had met at a bar, police said. The DWI charge was from an unrelated traffic stop on July 25, according to court records.

Webb joined the Army in August 1999 and came to Fort Bragg in May 2002. He is assigned to the 1st Battalion, 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division.

I wonder why it took her until now to say she was raped? Why didn't she report it immediately?

I undertstand no means No! These are not teenagers, they know what meeting in a bar after a few drinks may lead to. How do you get charged later with a offense you commited earlier ? That's a new one....

Have you all forgotten the Duke Lacrosse case so soon. Women DO lie about getting raped and sexually assaulted. This man is innocent until proven guilty. It is another case of he said / she said. If they had hard and fast evidence his bail would not be $25,000.

Thanks for allowing my comments today WRAL. I just hope I reach just ONE GIRL which may save her from danger of rape or just her life. Have a great evening. Good stories today and yesterday.

Mileage, I can't believe these posts either.
