Durham store clerk injured in assault

A convenience store clerk was injured during an assault Monday afternoon at the Buy Quick Food Mart, 103 W. Cornwallis Road, according to police.

The unknown suspect beat the clerk with a gun, according to Durham Watch Commander Lt. Williams. Emergency crews took the clerk, whose name was not released, to Duke University Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries

The store's supervisor wasn't sure if the suspect got away with anything, Williams said. No other information was released.

The problem isn't the police. North Carolina's structured sentencing system doesn't allow significant prison time in most cases, even for repeat offenders. Its up to the legislature to correct the sentencing problems (and they won't) and the courts to impose the toughest sentences they can on repeat offenders (they often don't, not that under the current law the "toughest sentence" is particularly tough).

Probation is seriously over used (which is why probation officers are so overworked and offenders often slip through the cracks). The police arrest the same people over and over again, they make bond, and they keep being criminals.

justcommonsense, anyone can use statistics to spray air freshener on poo. Of course Raleigh and Charlotte will have higher crime numbers since they have a MUCH larger population than Durham. But if you REALLY want to see the truth, look up the same data again and report back to us on the 'per capita' crime rates. That would tell you what your odds would be of being a victim of crime in that city. I don't expect we will here from you, or anyone else singing Durham's praises.

Restore the Constitution. Removed ALL the liberal "Infringements" on the law abiding citizens and allow those that choose to carry guns, carry them! Problem solved!

Yes.... at first there will be some dead folks. Dead "BAD FOLKS" who try to rob, rape, steal, etc. But it won't take long before the message is sent Loud & Clear.

"A convenience store clerk was injured during an assault Monday afternoon at the Buy Quick Food Mart,..." "The unknown suspect beat the clerk with a gun,..."

This shouldn't be news. Also should have an article title that reads, "Man ticketed for speeding on Durham Expressway". Anything that happens regularly is NOT shocking and shouldn't be news.
