Nashville, N.C. — Florida authorities on Friday arrested a 54-year-old convicted sex offender who had been on the run from charges in Nash County for five years, according to the sheriff's office.
Mark Allen Johnson was charged with failing to register as a sex offender in 2005 and had been on the Nash County Sheriff's Office list of most wanted fugitives.
Recently, Nash County investigators developed leads indicating that Johnson was in Florida. U.S. marshals arrested him in Clearwater, Fla. He was placed in jail, awaiting extradition to North Carolina.
Johnson was convicted in 1998 of taking indecent liberties with a 13-year-old, according to North Carolina Sex Offender Registry records. He was sentenced to probation.
