West End, N.C. — An 83-year-old man was arrested Monday on charges that he inappropriately touched an 8-year-old, authorities said Tuesday.

Gordon Earl Farron, of 128 Shadywood Court in West End, was charged with indecent liberties with a child, sexual battery and assault on a child under 12. He was released on a $50,000 unsecured bond.

Moore County Sheriff Lane Carter said in a statement that his office received a report on July 7 alleging the inappropriate activity occurred outside the West End area.

First, let me say he is 83 years old. He might be on medication that alters his thinking/reasoning skills. He might be dealing with Alzheimer/Dementia. When i met him several years ago he was a wonderful, kind man. I feel for both families, the 8 year old and the 83 year old.

I think there should be a fictitious crime similar to this made up and whatever these fine comment writers put in print, should happen to them. That would be a great movie, right? After all, you don't know anything happened, you just read the print and react, so if someone reacted equally to your hate, that would be justified, right?

"Many sex offenders who prey on young children have otherwise clean criminal records and seem to fit well into their communities. That is a part of why they are so dangerous. Many escape detection for years, and some no doubt are never found out. The shocking thing in this story is not the man's age but the fact that, if guilty, he could possibly have been getting away with this kind of thing for decades." sinenomine

Can't really make a comment on this one. I don't trust the news media these days to always get a story right. I always want to know ...THE REST OF THE STORY! I think crimes against children are henious of any kind. Our laws have to be adusted to fit the crime. Too much of this is happening especially with the breakdown of the traditional family. It makes me sick.
