Police on Monday charged a Fayetteville man with murder in a weekend wreck that killed a motorcyclist.

Jason Gregory Taft, 22, of 250 King's Creek Drive, was charged with second-degree murder in the death of Felipe Ramirez.

Investigators said Taft was eastbound on Country Club Drive at about 2 a.m. Saturday when he lost control of his pickup truck near the Murchison Road intersection. The pickup crossed the center line and collided head-on with Ramirez' motorcycle. Ramirez, 27, of Fort Bragg, died at the scene.

Excessive speed and alcohol were factors in the wreck, police said.

I am from NJ and Mr.Ramirez was a very dear and close friend of mine. Reading through all of these posts. It is so horrifying to see that this is so common in the state of NC. I cannot believe people get away with this so often.

It's about time!! Maybe this kind of prosecution will slow down folks DWI...but i doubt it!

"If you are going to charge DWI murder to ONE then ALL should be charge the same."

You are absolutely right.... hopefully this changes what appears to be an issue with NC leniency and DWIs, now and forward. Killing someone due to negligence (the driving could have been avoided) should be a mandatory/minimal 2nd degree.

If you are going to charge DWI murder to ONE then ALL should be charge the same.

It's about time someone was charged with murder in a traffic death involving alcohol.
