Raleigh, N.C. — The Raleigh City Council on Tuesday unanimously approved installing temporary bicycle lanes along Hillsborough Street.
The city and state Department of Transportation will evaluate the lanes for several months before determining whether to make them permanent.
The temporary installation consists of two 11-foot-wide travel lanes for automobiles, 5-foot bicycle lanes and 7-foot parking lanes along Hillsborough Street from Enterprise Street to Gardner Street.
Hillsborough Street is undergoing a makeover. Work is almost complete on a set of traffic circles that are expected to make travel along the street more efficient and safe.
Also Tuesday, city leaders unanimously decided to move forward with the installation of bicycle lanes along Faircloth Street to coincide with the roundabouts project.
