The SPCA of Wake County held two SUPER Kitten Adoptathon events on Saturday in Raleigh.

Kittens and cats were up for adoption at the PetSmart at 2800 E Millbrook Road and at the SPCA Curtis Dail Adoption Center at 200 Petfinder Lane.

The nonprofit says more new kittens crowd the shelter during the spring and summer. In response, the SPCA has lowered its adoption fees for cats and kittens to $47.50.

The fees normally run $70 to $115 and include the cost of spaying or neutering, a microchip and vaccines.

“We just have so many little kittens that need homes, so we figure giving people an economic incentive to come and adopt is a great way to get them out of the shelter,” said Mondy Lamb, spokeswoman for the SPCA of Wake County.

The discounted adoption price will continue through the end of October.

The SPCA shelter on Petfinder Lane in Raleigh is open 1-5 p.m. Sundays, 11 a.m-8 p.m. Mondays, and 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays.

We adopted two pets this weekend and so happy we did! The facility on Petfinder Lane is very nice and the staff is wonderful. Thought I would be sad seeing all the little homeless ones but it was a wonderful experience. If you are looking for a pet, this is a great place to find one (or two)!!
