A former deputy in Wake County and New Hanover County was arrested Monday on charges that he illegally accessed a government database.

The State Bureau of Investigation charged Charles Graham Smith Jr., 31, of 3609 Tristam Place in Wilmington, with accessing government computers. He was released on a $5,000 bond.

According to the arrest warrant, Smith "did access (a crime database) to print (state Division of Motor Vehicles) information on another for purpose of obtaining access to a nightclub."

Smith worked as a Wake County deputy from June 2003 to May 2005. He worked as a New Hanover County deputy from December 2007 until June, when he resigned his position amid an internal investigation.

"No one understands what he is saying or that is what I think he is saying"

Say wut? :P

Just getting to "work" Journey? LOL

What is meant here by "obtaining access to a nightclub"?

Most people just show their drivers license and pay the five dollar cover charge when they want access to a nightclub.

Why does it seem like there's something missing from this story?

And the hits just keeeeep on coming!!!!! Yet another fine, outstanding model LEO. With people like him protecting us I do believe I am safer with my Smith & Wesson and Glock.

Umm, rebelyell, please stay off my jury. "Is there even a crime here? Sounds like the guy might be doing something good." Uh, yeah. I think there's a crime here. They don't charge people with non-crimes. That's sort of part of the arrest and charging process. You determine that what you allege is against the law, then you determine that you have evidence of the violation, then you arrest and charge. He may be innocent, but what the officials allege is indeed a crime. If you think it is ok for former LE officers to break into LE computers because the MIGHT be doing some good with what they steal, then you really need some education.
