AT&T to offer iPhone without a contract

Having trouble reaching someone by cell phone today? They may be part of an AT&T phone outage in the Southeast.

The company began experiencing problems at about 7 a.m. in North Carolina, Georgia and Tennessee, spokeswoman Crystal Prince said. Crews were working to fix the problem, she said, but she couldn't provide specific information about the nature of the problem or where crews were trying to make repairs.

AT&T didn't have an estimate of when service would be restored.

"AT&T is experiencing a wireless service interruption in parts of the Eastern North Carolina area. As a result, some customers in these areas may be having trouble making and receiving calls," Prince said in a statement. "AT&T is working on a solution to the problem and will provide updates going forward. We apologize to our customers for the inconvenience."

AT&T wireless customers in Raleigh, Carthage, Sanford, Goldsboro, Fayetteville, Wilson and Durham have reported to WRAL News that they have been unable to make calls and receive voice-mail messages.

Prince said it was unclear how many customers were affected.

Meanwhile, some Time Warner Cable digital cable customers were unable to see some channels.

Spokeswoman Melissa Buscher said a software problem caused some channel to go dark.

Most customers had service restored by mid-afternoon, and the rest had service by 9:45 p.m., spokesman Keith Poston said. There was no estimate of the number of customers affected.

cjackson181, find a utility company that doesn't bill you a month in advance. Directv and dish network do as well.

i've never really had a problem with twc. and if i did, i call them and they are out there within the hour if not the next day depending on the time of day i call.

How do you tell if AT&T had an outage?

If you dont live within sight of a 4 lane hiway AT&T doesnt work anyway.

I have had nothing but problems since I started with TWC. It is getting to where there is even no point calling about anything, they always have some excuse or answer about things. I might be getting ready to switch service if things dont get better. The rates are always high, something always wrong with the bill and not to mention, THEY BILL YOU A MONTH IN ADVANCE. I MEAN YOU HAVENT EVEN USED THE SERVICE AND THEY ALREADY HAVE YOUR NEXT BILL PRINTED.

I seem to have the dark channels problem with TWC a lot. Frankly, I am tired of calling about it. TWC reports that software caused 'some' channels to go dark.... at my house it more than 3/4 of the digital channels. And, NO, they never deduct or reduce the bill. As a reward for staying with TWC, they raise your rates.
