Pay your traffic tickets online

print friendly

Thanks to the Internet, you don't have to wait anymore in long lines to pay your traffic tickets in North Carolina.

The North Carolina Administrative Office of the Courts has launched an online payment system called payNCticket.org for most traffic tickets and related costs.

The system launched as a pilot in March and is now processing an average of about $24,000 per day, which has kept nearly 4,700 people from standing in line at county courthouses.

North Carolina courts handle the payment of more than 500,000 citations per year, including traffic offenses.

Prior to payNCticket, fines and related court costs could be made either in person at the courthouse or by mail.

I just paid a seat belt ticket online...my time is worth way more than the money (125) it cost to pay online than to go to the Wake Cty Court House and wait for hours. However, if you have a speeding ticket or DUI, get a lawyer, if its a stop sign or seatbelt...just pay the fine and get on with your life, it wont affect your insurance.

Don't use the website. If you go stand in the line, most of the time the DA will either reduce or drop the ticket. They have too many tickets for the judge to hear ever case so they make it worth your time not to take up the judges time.

Good point "claytontarheel".

jbco is right. I had a guy try and plead not guilty to a seat belt violation and a woman plead not guilty to a stop sign violation. I guess they had the same mentality of "grimreaper". Needless to say, I took the stand and testified as a witness. They attempted to cross examine me, and they got convicted. So, you can either be an adult and accept responsibility for your actions or go to trial and get convicted 99% of the time. It may have worked for "grimreaper", but that's not typical results.

Now, if you have an expired registration ticket, broken tail/head light, expired inspection, etc. You can get that fixed and most likely have the charge dismissed if you prove it in court (take your registration/receipt).

Have a good day!

I've never had an attorney cost me more than the insurance gain. In most counties, the asst DA and the judge will coach you through a reasonable reduction without an attorney. Just be sure to say "yes sir", "yes maam", and "thank you". Also, be respectful to the cop when you get the ticket if you don't want hear it again in court.
