Lillington, N.C. — An argument during a drug deal led to a shooting in Lillington late Tuesday that left one man dead and another wounded, according to the Harnett County Sheriff's Office.

Daniel Wayne Dority, 37, is accused of killing Glen Shonta Elliott, 29, of Fuquay-Varina, and wounding Anthony Ryan Elliot, 29, of Lillington, in a parking lot at N.C. Highway 27 West and Spring Hill Church Road.

Sheriff Larry Rollins said that Glen Elliot died of his wounds, while Anthony Elliot managed to drive himself to his home and call for help. He was treated and released from Betsy Johnson Hospital.

Dority was charged with first-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder.

Investigators said they found cocaine and marijuana at the scene of the shooting and in Anthony Elliot's home.

Of the three men involved in the incident, two have a history of drug charges. According to state Department of Correction records, Glen Elliot did not have a criminal record.

Anthony Elliot has a 2007 conviction for possession of drugs with intent to sell.

DOC records show that Dority has spent more than 11 years out of the past 19 in prison.

He was committed as a youthful offender and served a 10-year sentence in the 1990s after being convicted of a string of break-ins, larceny of firearms and assault with a deadly weapon of a government officer or employee, records show. He has since served two terms of less than a year for breaking and entering and drug charges.
