A Rocky Mount man wanted in an armed robbery stripped off his clothes and jumped into a pond in a mobile home park Monday afternoon to avoid arrest, police said.

Christopher Lee Silver, 27, was wanted in a May 26 armed robbery at the D&J Event Center nightclub in which a man was struck in the head with a bottle and handgun.

On Monday, Silver was spotted walking in the area of Bunch Circle. Police said he tried flee from officers by taking off his clothes and jumping in a pond in Ben Layton Mobile Home Park. When officers surrounded the pond, he came out and surrendered.

Silver was placed in the Nash County Jail under a $54,500.

Also charged in the May 26 robbery was Tremaine Earl Silver, 22.

Both men also faced charges of simple assault after a Nov. 13 brawl at 108 Millennium Court that police say erupted while an estranged couple was dividing their furniture.

As well, the Silvers were also convicted of assaulting a policeman and simple assault in a Dec. 20, 2006, according to state Department of Correction records.
