Volunteers build fences for dogs

e-mail print friendly

Volunteers with the Coalition to Unchain Dogs held their first Fence-A-Thon in Durham Saturday.

The nonprofit group put up more than 30 free fences for dogs at 1112 Fern St. and other locations.

The group was active in helping pass a pet-tethering ban in the county.

Under the ban, chaining a dog outside is considered animal abuse in most cases. Exceptions to the proposed law include veterinarians who are treating an animal and those training hunting and police dogs.

The ban went into effect Jan. 1.
