Sinkhole closes Durham intersection

Durham, N.C. — Morehead Avenue was closed Thursday afternoon at the intersection of Shoppers Street while crews worked to repair a sinkhole, officials said.

Street Maintenance Supervisor Michael Balzarano said the cave-in was apparently caused by a failed stormwater line, and it could take up to two weeks to repair the street.

Traffic was being detoured around the area, and water and sewer services to nearby residents weren't affected.
