YANCEYVILLE, N.C. — An inmate was re-captured after escaping from the minimum-security Dan River Prison Work Farm in Yanceyville Saturday afternoon, authorities said.

Officers on patrol spotted Phillip W. Brewer, 45, in a church parking lot about 2 miles from the work farm around 10:30 p.m., said state Department of Correction spokesman Keith Acree. He was arrested without incident.

Brewer had last seen during a 2 p.m. head count and left the prison by scaling a fence, Acree said.

Brewer was serving a three-month misdemeanor sentence for obtaining property by false pretenses and was scheduled for release May 21. His criminal record dates to 1997 and includes numerous convictions for larceny, passing worthless checks and breaking-and-entering vending machines, DOC records show.
