Raleigh, N.C. — A Durham County prosecutor is making the move to Wake County.
Assistant District Attorney David Saacks is leaving the Durham County District Attorneys' Office to take a position at the Wake County District Attorney's Office.
His last day in Durham is Thursday.
Saacks, an 18-year veteran of the office was involved in the prosecution of a number of high-profile cases, including the 2003 murder trial of Durham novelist Michael Peterson, who was convicted of killing his wife two years earlier.
Most recently, he prosecuted the case of Shannon Crawley, who was found guilty last month of first-degree murder in the Jan. 4, 2007, shooting death of Denita Monique Smith, a North Carolina Central University student.
In September 2007, then-Gov. Mike Easley appointed Saacks to temporarily replace former District Attorney Mike Nifong, who resigned after being disbarred.
He served in the position until January 2009, when District Attorney Tracey Cline took office.
